IC INFORMATION
Characters Name: Republic Of Lithuania (Lietuvos Respublika) | Toris Laurinaitis (Human Name) | Commonly known as Lithuania
Age: Depending on where you take the countries age from, it can vary. Normally, people use the first mention of the country in historical context, which was in 1009, making him 1003 as of this February. Either way, he looks around 19.
Canon Point: Modernized / Present Day ; December 2011
Species: Personified Nation
Gender: Male, both biologically and mentally
Orientation: While I can prattle on all day about how big of a subconscious bisexual he is, he's currently interested in one woman and one woman only AND has only ever come onto one person, aka the woman in question. At least intentionally. Concerning marriage, however, he has been married in the past, to a man, for strictly business purposes. He has no real preference since this relationship isn't romantic, therefore not something concerning gender or his orientation to him.
History: History & Canon. Also a profile if you scroll down a ways.
Appearance: Because of the vagueness and inconsistency of Hetalia and its lack of real information for some character's exact measurements and biodata, it's only my best guess to peg him somewhere around average stature. He's for sure smaller than Estonia and a hell of a lot taller than Latvia and about a head taller than Poland. This is all to be taken with a grain of salt, however, because Himaruya can't really be arsed to have any size consistency in drawing. What he draws doesn't match up with what biodata he does give most of the time.

His eyes are a deep shade of green in the manga, reminiscent of #35701E or ardus according to colourlovers, though in the anime, his eyes are a shade of blue. It's considered canonly correct to go with his eyes being green as the manga of course came first and is how he's normally portrayed in fanart and via the fandom. He's got medium length, dusky brown hair; it's not too dark and not too light. It's somewhat like #b26b2c, or secret. His hair is generally a little messy, though not tangled, and gives the appearance of someone that might have just woken up from a nap and hasn't gotten the chance to run a comb through it yet. Bangs cover a decent portion of his forehead, though don't hide too much of his face.

Lithuania will usually dress pretty formally, though he keeps it simple with slacks and dress shirts with ties or vests with simple pants and dress shoes. He wears long sleeved jackets and the occasional t-shirt as well, greatly depending on the weather, who he's with, and where he's at. Military wise, he has a standard green uniform that he wears with boots and has really no special qualities about it. Lithuania is more about functionality than flair.

It's important to note that Lithuania has deep scars that run across the top of his back and possibly down further since the only part that was ever really shown was his upper half. The cause of the scars are mostly likely Russia and a whip, as displayed in this comic, which comes right before the comic where we get to see the scars. They appear to be dark and a large blemish and something that Lithuania obviously doesn't want anyone else to see.
Personality: Upon first meeting Lithuania, most will see him as a shy, polite kind of guy whom they can sense they'll get along with. He looks plain, not threatening, average at best on all levels at first glance. He's a nice guy and easy to mesh with, and though Lithuania is a bit on the introverted side, he's quite popular in his own right, just because people tend to have a fondness for him. He's not quick to anger and mild-mannered in most situations. Do him wrong? He'll be hurt, of course, but your transgressions will be forgiven in his own way, though it may take a while (though probably not). That's not to say he forgives and forgets, however. He carries a lot of memories with him; it's hard not to when you're a country. He might not always say he forgives someone, but the relationship of whoever has troubled him will resume to normal quite quickly, such as with Poland and his aggravation towards him that normally lasted no more than a minute or two. Lithuania tends to look for the best in people and he's blind to a lot of faults, whether by density or just selective realization, or both. He's not necessarily trusting, though, and he's been done wrong a few too many times to just let his guard down so easily. He chooses who he's comfortable with, and it shows. He's polite and congenial, more apt to be formal with acquaintances. When Lithuania is with people he's closer to, or at least more familiar with or used to, there's an obvious air about him that exudes a bit more familiarity and that he's more relaxed.

Concerning his emotions, Lithuania may be easy to read, but he keeps most of his emotions on the inside, not really openly admitting to a lot of the feelings he has. Normally it's plainly obvious how he feels, at least to more perceptive individuals, but he never out-rightly states how he feels and internalizes a lot of his worries and concerns, but only when it comes to himself. He'll continuously fret and fluster about something, enough to cause him great stress and probably an ulcer or two; he doesn't want pity or anyone to dote on him in times of need. More than anything, he wants to be independent. He's got it all under control. It all comes with being a country; he has a strong sense of independence and the ability to do things himself. Lithuania is a private person, unwilling to share the hardships he's faced, not even his best friend.

A bundle of nerves, Lithuania is always thinking about something. When living with Russia during WWII, he constantly worried over whether Poland was going to get invaded, whether Poland was ready for battle, whether Poland had any kind of defense. It's shown that he worries about his own safety, Poland's well-being, his brothers' (Estonia and Latvia) safety (though their relationship is a little lop-sided; Estonia and Latvia seem to hold him in higher regard than how he sees them, though he does have feelings of concern for them), and even how America is doing. He's nervous in general and is like a mom and housewife rolled into one, always concerned about the general state of those close to him, enough to take a lot of loads onto his own shoulders.

He likes to take care of those he cherishes too, unafraid of taking on more than his share of the work, though it's something he doesn't necessarily choose for himself sometimes, and he might complain about it a little along the way. He does find enjoyment and fulfillment in it, though, as seen with taking care of the laid back America after World War I. When forced to do things he doesn’t like or agree with, such as doing Russia’s bidding or being subjected to one too many of Poland’s whims, he doesn’t enjoy himself nearly as much. Lithuania is also kind of indebted to and knows a lot of countries, what with being moved around a lot and having to have a little assistance to stay afloat. Once, upon seeing Japan, he thanked him profusely and was very congenial towards him, all because Japan supported him a little during a tough time, though the gesture wasn't reciprocated. Though he likes to try to stay within the bounds of his close friends and brothers, he's a decent guy who likes those who help him and works well with them.

With all that concern and worry comes a bad spell or two. Though Lithuania is resilient, he's by no means optimistic. He knows that he’s still alive and now that he’s self reliant, it’ll all be okay in the end...maybe. His pessimism isn't true pessimism, just that he knows (based on his history), that bad stuff happens and he needs to be prepared for things. Lithuania's constantly got something heavy on his mind, and with people like Poland and Russia in his life, he's going to have a freak out occasionally. These range from annoyance to downright panicking, depending on how far he's pushed and the severity of the issue. He deals with a lot of stress, strain, and has had a hard time coping in the past, so he’s a little on edge, and one can’t really blame him. It's taken a toll on his body as well, and it's known that Lithuania has his fare share of stomach problems and "colds" (aka the economy isn't doing so hot). It's hard for him to be comfortable somewhere right off the bat. Since he was young, he's stayed close to only a select few people, namely Poland and his Baltic brothers, Estonia, Latvia, and Belarus (though that’s certainly debatable on her part). Though he's capable of getting close to others, he'd rather be with one of them than anywhere else and won't necessarily go out of his way to make friends, no matter how personable he seems. As a side note, it's important to know that Lithuania has only gotten really, legitimately angry once, arguably twice. It wasn't directly said to the aggressor in question, and he recovered quickly. His fuse is long and only a spark when it does finally light.

By nature, he's a nostalgic individual. He can often, when asked, describe the time of life when he was happiest: his younger years; back when life was simpler and he had close to everything he could have ever wanted. Back in the day, Lithuania used to be a large and daunting nation, winning wars and being somewhat of a powerhouse (Though after the Commonwealth fell apart and Russia got a hold of him, things changed and he became someone more reliant on others. Not to say he doesn't know HOW to stand up for himself; he's perfectly capable now, he just chooses not to meddle in others affairs and the chance to fight hasn't sprung up again, though he wouldn’t battle unless absolutely necessary anyway. That and things just never seem to go his way; he has horrendous luck. Not to mention, while he has a sense of national pride, his self confidence isn't the best as he's a relatively new independent nation and still getting his bearings, not to mention his submissive attitude). He had independence, stability, and surety. He loves being stable and happy; something he'd been without for a long time until recently. While with Russia, he had a steady job and would occasionally forget himself, mistaking momentary safety for comfort, but the good times never really out-numbered the bad. The road for him has been rocky and he likes things to be mellow, where his worrisome personality doesn't cause him as much grief as it has recently, though it's rare he gets to experience that. With his recent independence, though, he's got less on his plate to really bother him too much, though in the past he’s always had a lot to deal with and was over-worked a lot of the time.

Though he is of an independent mindset, Lithuania is decently submissive and easily pushed around and taken advantage of, mostly because he's been forced to be a lackey for so many countries for so long. He may complain about doing a certain something or other that he has to take on, but in the end he’ll get the job done and do it well. No matter what task is set before him, Lithuania will do it until it's done at 100% capacity, even though he might complain about it, depending on who's telling him to do it and/or the task. He's extremely good at menial chores, like housework and food preparation, and enjoys doing things for others when they deserve it. In the past, he’s lived with and/or worked for many people who have given him chores and loads of work to do, and he gets it done with an eventual “It can’t be helped” prerogative, even if they might be outlandish, degrading, or monotonous. Lithuania will bend over backwards and makes a wonderful grunt, though he doesn’t ever really want to be one, and he’ll take on any task given to him with only a moderate complaint or two. No matter the ordeal going on or the state he was in, he would always be able to get through it with a level head. Sure, he gets frustrated but he's a very patient person and it shows. When his patience does run out, he has a bit of a temper, but Lithuania showing anything more than mild irritation is rare. When he did happen to have an outburst (and, again, it's only happened once), Lithuania didn't even have the heart to face the person he was upset at to his face and the whole ordeal was arguably a dream sequence anyway.

As I mentioned before, Lithuania's lived with people who required some taking care of. He's a caring guy who likes to provide for those he considers his good friends, worrying over them and acting as a support for them in their times of need. With Poland, he was always there for him during the Commonwealth, worried about him during the first partitioning, and called him during World War II. Lithuania put up with whatever nonsense he would come up with, sometimes begrudgingly. Even though there were times he came to hate him, like after being belittled and over-worked during the Commonwealth, he always came back around; never holding a grudge for long. With the Baltic countries, he always took the brunt of the pain Russia dealt out and supported them, helping them in whatever way he could to make their life with Russia better. When he lived with America, he would do menial tasks for him, offer to help him in any way he could, he even slept in his bed when he asked him to. A lot of Lithuania's life has been spent taking care of others and making sure that they're okay. It's just in his nature.

Lithuania, over the years, has been thrown into many situations; a lot of which are awful, abhorrent, and downright hellish. After time, though, he's adjusted to whatever the situation is and taken it head on. Between moving from Poland to Russia to America and his fluctuating independence, he's kept a level head and grown to accept, and even sustain a certain level of comfortably, anywhere he ends up, though it differs from place to place and person to person and of course takes a while to develop. Lithuania's also by no means stupid. He knows how to correct a problem proficiently, even if he has to go at it a few different ways. He's shown to be well versed in battle tactics and strategy, is known for having an extremely intimidating aura when in battle mode or pissed off, and serious about things to almost a fault. He's certainly resourceful, and Lithuania knows how to use what's given to him quite well. He looks at most things calmly and gets them done, normally achieving the best outcome. If he doesn't get it, he'll go back, rethink it, and do it again until he gets it right. He is also interested in literature and is a well read person.

Lithuania, however, is a dense individual when people are involved. Lithuania isn't the most witty of people, as he's rather simple and applies his smarts to practical things, rather than being sarcastic and snide; he's rather open and blunt. To be frank, he’s not all that street smart and more so versed in the realm of reason and not interpersonal skills. Like with Poland, he could never quite figure out where he stood with that guy, though it took a really intelligent and intuitive person to ever really understand him anyway. With Belarus, she breaks his bones and treats him like dirt, and shrugs it off or thinks very little of it, still as in love with her as ever. His situation with America can be considered along the same lines, as America gave him dull chores and treated him like a grunt but still respected him, which Lithuania enjoyed. Inter-personally, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed and probably won't read in too much on how well one thinks of him. He’s also been known to not have too good a grasp on what he says which can sometimes turn around and bite him in the rear. Also, it's shown that he can seem a little flighty, and he can be a bit of a day dreamer, becoming a little over-comfortable. He's even fallen asleep on Russia and America (literally and figuratively, respectively) when thinking back and recalling his past, acting as a relaxant.

Now-a-days, Lithuania can handle himself pretty well, except around Russia. Russia has always been a source of terror to him, be it present day or in the past. It's implied that Russia is the main source of his emotional and physical torment; a main catalyst in his nerves and stomach problems, not to mention the various scars on his back. Most people are at least a little afraid of Russia, but Poland is an exception. Any time Russia's tried to harass Lithuania, Poland's been there to ward him off, though it hasn't always proved to work. Even though Russia terrifies him to a certain extent, he’s been his grunt and lackey for long periods of time in the past, so they are on extremely familiar terms. It's unclear in canon their true relationship, as Lithuania is extremely afraid of Russia, but Russia will call him his "ex". While Lithuania can get afraid and shake and have nervous fits, Russia's the only real thing to send him over the edge anymore.
Abilites: As per the Hetalia standard, it's extremely hard to kill a country and he can't really die. Here, Lithuania would just be a little sturdier than most, due both to his status and the fact that he's had a long row to hoe and seen a lot of battles in his day; making his pain tolerance pretty high. He'll be a bit stronger than most, but not enough to make it truly noticeable unless he goes all out; he won't take advantage of this unless it's completely necessary and advantageous to him. He knows when to hold his ground and when to act on it.

Battle wise, he's pretty adept at sword fighting and has a peaking interest in martial arts. The swordplay he's fallen out of touch with, but it's kind of like riding a bike: not too hard to get the hang of once you pick one up again. What he lacks in recent practice he makes up for in his fighting spirit and battle prowess. Martial arts, wise, he wouldn't have more than a basic understanding of the fundamentals; more book smart than physically strong with it, though he can throw a pretty good punch. Harry Potter wise, this will transfer over as being a decent dueler.

When it comes to menial work, such as grunt tasks, cooking, cleaning, official duties, and secretarial like endeavours, Lithuania is your guy. If practice makes perfect, then over the years he's gotten pretty damn good at the above. He knows his way around the kitchen though he's not on a professional chef by any means, and can probably get a stain out of anything with the right amount of elbow grease. Need something signed 20 times in 40 places? He can get that done too.

So to be honest, he really doesn't have many abilities that are necessarily transferable or other-worldly. Mostly just the whole personified country thing.

Where classes are concerned, though, Lithuania wouldn't necessarily be bad at a lot of them as he's an intelligent person and well-read. That's not to say he doesn't have his areas that are weaker than others and the occasional thing hes pretty bad at. That is to say, he'd be a little shaky at first in everything and also because of his nervous tendencies, but he's a lot quicker to adjust compared to others. To keep things concise, I'll put what classes I could find in a list format for you.

SAMPLES
First Person: Linking like a boss.

Third Person: Something was simmering on the stove. His house was quiet, but the dullness of the house brought to it its own sense of life, he thought. As the Lithuanian sat at his new dining room table, there was a certain sort of comfort that came over him as well as that nervous twinge in the bottom of his stomach that never really seemed to go away or to settle no matter how much he tried to force it to.

On one hand, this place allowed for a lot of freedom. On the other, it wasn't familiar. Not that he hadn't been thrown into situations of unfamiliarity before, no, that wasn't anything new. At least, though, those places and people and terrors were on the same planet. Was this place on earth? It seemed Earthly enough. But he did know an alien, so possibilities were endless. Either way, this wasn't home. He couldn't even feel his home or his people or anything that even resembled familiar. It didn't even feel like America, despite how obvious it appeared to be. He knew how America felt and this wasn't it.

Lithuania had made himself a pot of tea, staring absent-minded into the bottom of the mug he was pouring his drink into. There was still that comfort he felt, being safe, being secure. He wasn't exactly sure, yet, that it was completely safe and of course his guard was rarely completely down. There was always something that would crop up to make him twitch, to make him squirm, and just uncomfortable in general. It wasn't until the dark tea spilled onto the table that he noticed how he was trembling. He had to set his shiny silver kettle down and run a hand through his hair to even begin to calm himself.

Maybe the illusion of being a little safe was just something he wanted, not something he actually had.
